Lumineeers For Encino & Los Angeles Patients
A consultation with cosmetic dentist Dr. Shawn Matian will determine whether veneers or Lumineers are the right choice. A Lumineer is a type of veneer made of thin, porous Cerinate porcelain. Unlike traditional veneers, Lumineers® are very thin—only about the thickness of a contact lens, and they do not require the same amount of tooth removal for application.
This makes them a superb choice for painless, minor cosmetic adjustments, such as extending the length of smaller teeth, permanent whitening of the teeth or fixing minor chips.
Because there is little or no tooth reduction when fitting Lumineers, they eliminate the need for numbing shots. Fitting is usually accomplished in two visits, without the need for temporary veneers. Lumineers are more flexible than traditional veneers because they are generally reversible when no tooth reduction is needed. They cost less than veneer applications while lasting longer, and can be placed over existing dental crowns or bridgework.
How Thin Are Lumineers?
While Lumineers are only about 0.2 millimeters in thickness, compared to 0.5 millimeters for veneers, they will extend beyond the teeth slightly, changing the bite pattern. Dr. Matian will examine your biting habits, such as the frequency of grinding or clenching the teeth, or nail biting. This will ensure your new Lumineers will not be damaged in any way.
A thorough consultation is necessary to understand the differences between Lumineers® and veneers, and which one will be best for you. Should Lumineers turn out to be the best choice, they are proven to last over 20 years, so your beautiful smile will be with you for years to come.
