Porcelain Veneers are made from thin pieces of porcelain and serve the purpose of recreating the look of you natural teeth. These veneers are strong and resilient and you can find a number of available shades to ensure the proper match to your teeth. It is an ideal pick for restoration of tooth shape, color, size or alteration of slight positions.

If you are considering veneers the first thing you need to do is to consult with your dentist to find out if they are a good choice for the type of restoration that you need. Your dentist will determine if there are alternate options.

At this phase you have to ensure that you correctly communicate what you want to be done to your dentist. This is critical to the success of the finished work. The dentist will have a smile analysis done to find out what steps must be taken to help achieve what you are looking for. They may also make a diagnostic mock up so you can ‘try on’ veneers as well as other solutions to see if they will provide what you want. You will see a photo of what your smile will look like after the procedure – they call this cosmetic dental imaging.

How and Why Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are made up of a number of different layers of thin ceramic. This is what replaces the original tooth enamel with an adhesive used to keep them affixed in place. The underlying tooth will need to prepped in order to receive the veneer – this means less than a millimeter of the enamel will be removed. This is done so there is room for the veneer to be placed while keeping the teeth even with the rest.

For the veneer to function correctly the bond between the porcelain veneer and the original tooth must be perfect. The resin placed between the original tooth and the veneer is light sensitive so that it cures and hardens when a special light is used on during the process of affixing the veneer to your original tooth.

Porcelain veneers are a suitable option for a number of different tooth problems. Persons with teeth discoloration, poor shape, poor contouring, gaps between teeth and fractured teeth and small problems that are bite related will find that veneers could be the perfect option for them.

If you are worried about damage done to your teeth to receive veneers you can ask your dentist about ‘no prep’ veneers or minimal prep veneers. These are not suitable for everyone though so you shouldn’t get your hopes up before talking to your dentist. These offer the advantages of a quicker turn around time and not so much removal of enamel from the tooth. They are also more comfortable to complete and can be done a lot more quickly than you general veneers. Your dentist will let you know if you can be a candidate for no prep or minimal prep veneers.

Though there have been many improvements in the field of dental care in the United States there is still a large majority of the population that suffers from tooth loss. Many of the persons in this category loose their teeth because of gingivitis, tooth decay and tooth injury. For years person’s with these problems had dentures and bridges as their only solution but today dental implants are another option – an invasive surgical option.

What are They?

These are tooth root replacements that provide a foundation for permanent as well as for removable teeth. The new teeth of course are made to match your natural teeth.

What are Their Advantages?

Improvement in appearance – they not only look but also feel like your natural teeth. They fuse with bone and become permanent over time.

Improvement in speech – since there is no chance that these will slip within your mouth like dentures do you will not have to worry about slurred speech or mumbled words.

Improvement in comfort – since they fuse to bone and become permanent they won’t cause the discomfort of dentures.

Eating is easier – since these won’t move within your mouth chewing will be easier and you will not have any restrictions on what you can and cannot eat.

Improvement in oral health – dental implants leave your teeth in tact unlike other methods such as bridges. None of your teeth will be altered in an effort to support the implant so all your own teeth will be left intact which means better long term oral health. You will also have easier access to your teeth for cleaning and maintenance.

Improvement in Self Esteem – you get your smile back and so you will feel a lot better about yourself.

Durable – with proper care these will last for an entire lifetime.

Convenient – since these are permanent there is no inconvenience and no embarrassment with removing dentures. There is no need for adhesives and other things necessary for dentures.

How Successful are They?

The success depends on the placement of the implants. In general the success rate is as high as 98% and as mentioned above with the right care these will last for an entire lifetime.

Who is a Perfect candidate?

Individuals who are in good health and are suitable for routine oral surgery and dental extractions are also suitable for this surgery. Once a patient’s gums are healthy enough to hold bone an implant they should qualify. Once you qualify you have to make a commitment to good oral hygiene and regular visits to your dentist. Persons suffering from heart disease and diabetes along with those who have had radiation therapy applied to their head and neck will need to be evaluated individually to determine their suitability for the procedure.

Is the Procedure Covered by Dental Insurance?

Many dental insurance plans do not cover for this procedure but it may be possible to have it covered under your medical plan. This is dependent on your plan and also on the cause of loosing your teeth in the first place. Discuss all these with your dentist to find the most suitable option to make this procedure more affordable.

If you are looking for a reversible, non invasive and affordable way to have some cosmetic dental work done the Snap on Smile appliance may be just the right choice for you. With this device there is no need for using adhesives, there is also no drilling and no shots. You can even eat while wearing these and there are no restrictions on what you can eat as well.

What is It?

It is a cosmetic solution that is non invasive and available for partial and full arch. It simply snaps over the existing dentition of the patient and does not impinge on their gingival tissue neither does it cover the palate. No adhesives are required for these as they are completely tooth borne and they will allow you to function normally all day.

Many users of the appliance have reported that it provided them with an immediate self esteem and confidence. They note that the product has a natural look and also a natural feel. The latter is one thing that surprises a lot of people because they expect they will feel a bit strange at least at first with these in their mouths only to find that it all feels completely natural. Another advantage of this product is how quickly it provides a solution for your cosmetic tooth problems. In approximately two weeks you can have a whiter and brighter smile as well as even teeth with no cracks, chips or missing teeth.

Those are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how you can benefit from the use of Snap on Smiles. Here are more pros of the product;

Can be used as provisionals for your implant restoration so you don’t have to go around with a missing tooth waiting on your implant to be done.

Can be used as cosmetic partial dentures if you can’t afford a more permanent solution or don’t want traditional dentures.

Can be used as a long term smile enhancer.

Can be used as a temporary fix when you are hesitant in choosing your permanent restorative treatment.

Suitable for severe cases of malocclusion, limited retention and large edentulous spans.

Snap on Smile Features

Care Tips & Accesories for Care

While you can wear these as much as you like it is recommended that you remove them while you sleep. You will also need to clean them and store them correctly to ensure they last you as long as possible. There are a number of accessories that can help you to take the best care of your Snap on Smile appliance, these include;

When it comes to straightening your teeth you have two major options; braces and Invisalign. They both have the same end results - straighter teeth and a more confident smile. But like anything else, both methods have their pros and cons and weighing these will help you to make the decision that best suits not only your pocket but also your lifestyle. So how do these two compare?

Both methods fix under bite, over bite, cross bite, crowding and spacing of teeth, they both straighten teeth and cost around the same. But those aren’t the only factors that you need to bear in mind when considering which method to choose to straighten your teeth.

Cons of Wearing Braces

For one braces are visible and they require a lot more effort to take care of your teeth. So you will have to be more vigilant with brushing and flossing your teeth.

Persons who choose to wear braces will be advised to stay away from certain foods. You will be advised to remove certain food from your diet entirely while others you will be advised on how to eat them. For instance with braces you won’t be able to eat bubble gum, gummy or hard candy, hard cookies, pizza crust, pretzels, nuts and popcorn among others. You can eat an apple but you can’t eat it whole, instead you will have to slice it up into thin slices. You can eat corn but not corn on the cob so you will have to remove the corn grains first.

You will not be able to remove braces and will have to them the entire time you are being treated to straighten your teeth.

Braces can irritate your teeth and gums.

Pros of Invisalign

Invisible

Removable

Fewer dentist visits

No food restrictions

What About Other Methods for Straightening Teeth?

If you have done your research you may know that these aren’t the only two methods that can be used to get your teeth looking straighter and your smile brighter. One of those options are veneers. These are great for fixing problems with the appearance of teeth but they do not take care of the underlying periodontal problems. They are applied to the front and side of teeth and they require the removal of enamel from the surface of your teeth which is a permanent procedure.

Veneers are a quick fix though but they will need replacement every 5 – 10 years. As you can imagine this will be expensive over time. There is also the problem of discoloration as these will change color just like your teeth if you like to have red wine, coffee and tea. You will also need to be extremely careful to ensure your veneer doesn’t chip, crack or break.

You can always opt to not seek treatment and many people go this route but you must remember that many orthodontic problems when left untreated can lead to a number of serious dental issues that can lead to other health issues.

Dental veneers prevent a very versatile fix for a number of different dental conditions that can affect how your teeth look and function. They have their pros and cons but they have been found to be one of the best options for restoring teeth function and beauty which removes your inhibitions, enhancing your smile and allowing you to smile more and with more confidence as well.

They are often called laminates and the wide variety are made from porcelain They are made to cover existing teeth and are affixed in a permanent procedure. They are durable, strong and most of them provide the most natural look. Take note that these are not the perfect solution for all but they do offer a certain amount of versatility when it comes to treatment and restoration.

These laminates can fix abrasions, breakages, abrasion, chipping, imperfect development and more while restoring the teeth of us are. In the past this was achieved by fillings and crowns but today we have a third option which has gotten many success stories since it first started being used.

These do not require the removal of much tooth structure which is a plus when compared to other elements. There is little to no discomfort experienced by having this procedure done. They are also color stable and are more affordable options to other procedures that provide the same outcome.

If it is just a small amount of the tooth’s structure that needs repairing then a filling can be used to do the repair. However if there has been a substantial amount of tooth structure damage a crown may be the best option. The veneer falls between the two extremes providing a simple face lift to teeth with moderate damage that have not lost their functionality or are not at risk of losing the functionality of their teeth.

They can last for many years once they are properly taken care of and they are very stain resistant as well as are resistant to chipping as well. For the procedure the dentist removes some of the enamel in order to make enough room for the veneer to be placed in a more aesthetic matter. They will then take an impression of your teeth and send this off to a dental lab that specializes in creating custom made laminates. You will be allowed to go home and then on your next visit the veneers will be attached. On the day of attaching the veneers your teeth will be treated with a mild chemical which makes the teeth a bit rough and this in turn enhances the hold that the veneer has on your teeth. The laminates are the attached to your natural teeth singly with the use of a composite resin cement to keep them in place. The dentist then smooths and shines the teeth as necessary to get them to a very natural looking state so now one will be able to look at you and tell that you are wearing veneers.

Everybody wants to have that perfect smile but yet only a few have the opportunity to have a perfect natural smile. A cosmetic dentist can help you realize your dream of having the perfect smile. They can provide regular orthodontic treatment as well as treatment for straightening teeth, changing tooth color as well as can help to straighten your teeth among other things.

With quite a number of advances in technologies, techniques and materials used in the offices of Cosmetic Dentists you can even get a whole new set of teeth which will prove to be just as strong as your previous teeth. More advanced techniques can have your teeth looking better in as little as one 30 minute visit to the dental professional depending on what you need to have done.

How Your Dentist can Improve Your Smile

Cosmetic Dentistry is all about making your smile look better by giving your teeth a more perfect look. The procedures done in this branch of dentistry are purely for improving the appearance of the teeth and mouth and are not done with functionality of the teeth and mouth as the main aim. Common procedures done include whitening of the teeth, smoothing of the surface of the teeth, aligning teeth, closing gaps between teeth etc.

One of the most common improvements to ones smile now widely offered by dentists is tooth whitening. This is not your typical stay at home whitening kit, I can assure you of that. Whitenings done at the office of a Cosmetic Dentist are professional services that provide the best whitening services that money can buy. The downside though is that these services as you can imagine can be pretty pricey.

Another service that is considered as cosmetic dentistry is the repairing of rough spots or chips in the teeth. These issues are remedied with the use of fillings. Back in the day persons mainly only had fillings for cavities but with the introduction of fillings that match the natural teeth and the various colors now rough spots and chips on the surface of a tooth can be remedied by fillings as well.

Cosmetic dentistry also involves the reshaping of teeth that do not match with the other teeth in the mouth. This can be done a number of ways including by bonding, capping or adjusting the teeth down. The option that is chosen is dependent on the type of problem to be fixed on the teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry can also provide a means of closing a gap between teeth. he different methods used to achieve this include veneers, composite bonding, invisalign, braces or orthodontics The method chosen to close the gap is dependent on the reason for the gap as well as the size of the gap between the teeth.

One can also have broken teeth covered with porcelain crowns.

Many of the procedures mentioned above can be done to fix more than one problem with the teeth for example. The use of porcelain crowns is good for covering up broken teeth and is also good for whitening the teeth – both of which are done to improve the visible appearance of the teeth.

Dental coverage is important to a number of consumers today and while medical insurance takes the top spot, dental insurance is usually what follows behind. For a single person the decision may be clear cut but if you have a family and need to select coverage for the entire family then you may need a little help to steer you in the right direction.

One of the first things you will need to do is to get an understanding of what your needs for dental insurance are. Each member of your family will have their own challenges and so the different needs will affect the type of dental care each person may need which will influence the type of coverage you need to get for your entire family. At Delta Dental you can find the help you need to determine what coverage is best for your family and best for your budget. But typically you can get an understanding of what is needed by breaking down your family into categories grouped by age.

Those in the age group 20 – 39 are not likely to have many challenges in the area of oral health and so will only need preventative services done such as checkups and basic cleanings. If you are pregnant, recent studies have shown that additional cleanings could be of benefit. If you have children it is recommended that you visit the dentist with them within their first year.

Family members in the age group from 40 – 59 will likely need replacement fillings, crowns, root canals and other restorative procedures. These can be very expensive so you definitely need to choose a plan that will give you the opportunity to have a lower deductible and a higher maximum payout yearly. This will ensure you get the best possible care.

Persons over 60 years of age are prone to more chronic conditions such as gum disease and so you will need a plan that will manage these expenses.

Apart from the ages of those to be covered by the plan you also want to look at a dental network You will find that Dentists within a particular network will have lower fees and if you already have your chosen dentist it is best to choose a larger network since it will be more likely that your dentist is already a part of that network. In the Delta Dental network there are an approximate 42,000 dentists so chances are you won’t have to change dentists to get their coverage.

Since dental care focuses primarily on prevention it is best to get your family members the best care earlier on in their lives. this will help to minimize their risks of chronic dental conditions in their latter years.

Delta has been around for for over 50 years and cover over 59 million individuals and 97,000 businesses. You can trust them with your families dental health to ensure you are getting the best dental work done at the most affordable costs. They were initially founded by dentists and so you know their dental plans are not just to make the company money but to ensure that consumers get the best care.

Protect your family’s oral health with the right kind of dental insurance coverage. With the right coverage you and your family will be able to exhibit healthier dental behaviors such as visiting the dentist on a regular basis, flossing and brushing teeth with fluoridated toothpaste at least twice daily.

If you are searching for the different types of dental crowns you should already know what these are but for those readers who don’t here’s a definition for you. A dental crown is basically a cap that is shaped like a tooth and placed over the tooth in an effort to cover the tooth for the purpose of improving its appearance or restoring its strength, size or shape.

Crowns encase the tooth fully when they are properly cemented and covers all of the underlying tooth that rises at and above the gum line.

So what kind of material is used in the making of these crowns? There are a number of choices, these include;

Metals – Crowns made of metal group are generally made from gold alloys. Other alloys used include nickel, chromium or palladium. When crowns from this group are used the wear on the opposing teeth will be minimal. They are very resistant and will be the ones that last the longest where wearing down of the material is concerned. It is very rare for these types of crowns to break or chip but the main con of this would be their color as such they are more suited for molars that are not within sight.

Stainless steel – These crowns are prefabricated and are mainly a temporary fix. These are used to protect a tooth while the permanent crown is being made. It covers the tooth that it is protecting in its entirety preventing further damage to the tooth. Stainless steel crowns are most often used in the mouths of children since they are more affordable and require less dental visits.

All Ceramic / All Porcelain – Such crowns are great for front teeth since they match better with the different shades of natural teeth. These are the perfect choice for people who are allergic to metals. These wear down opposing teeth and are not the strongest choice however.

Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns – These types of crowns can also be matched to the color of your existing teeth. These however wear the opposing teeth much more than resin and metal crowns. These crowns are susceptible to breaking and chipping in the area where there is porcelain however these crowns are those which look the most like normal teeth. These are good choices for front and back teeth though the metal may sometimes show through especially after receding gums.

All Resin Dental Crowns – These are the most affordable types of crowns. They do wear down over time though and are prone to fractures more-so than crowns that feature porcelain fused to metal.

Then another category that you can look at Dental Crowns from is temporary and permanent. Temporary options can be made in the office at your dentist while permanent ones are made in a dental laboratory. Temporary crowns are made from stainless steel or acrylic and are used while the permanent crowns are being made in the lab.

There are a number of reasons someone may need to have a dental crown done and for the most part the reason may be the main determining factor for the type of crown used. Reasons one may need a dental crown include;

To protect a tooth from decay or from breaking or to hold cracked parts together

To restore a tooth that is worn down or broken

To support a tooth with a large filling

To keep dental bridges in position

To cover dental implants

To cover teeth that are severely discolored or misshapened

To make some sort of cosmetic modification
