Mini Dental Implants
Do you wear dentures? Are you unhappy with them? Denture instability is the biggest complaint of almost all denture wearers. The complaint isn’t with the upper denture, as it does not move. However, the lower jaw moves and has many muscles, including the tongue, so dentures can become dislodged while eating or talking.
Up until now, the only other option was to undergo the lengthy and expensive process of receiving dental implants. For many, this is not an option due to bone density issues or because the prospect of months of surgery outweighed the benefits of dental implants.
Now there is an exciting alternative that has been called a 'game changer' by the many delighted people who have undergone this new procedure. Mini Dental Implants or MDIs are now available to stabilize dentures and give patients the freedom to eat all the foods they like. These MDIs return self confidence when in social settings– no more attention of wobbly lower dentures that might dislodge while talking or laughing with friends.
Dr. Matian of BioDental in Encino, CA can complete this procedure in about an hour, with no surgery, sutures or major anesthetic needed. Imagine going into his office and an hour or so later, leaving with a completely stable denture. This procedure produces a 90% improvement in stability. Now having a denture is almost like having a full lower jaw of dental implants using this procedure. For many people, this is a major improvement in their quality of life.
This is what you can expect when having MDIs placed:
- A mild short term anesthetic is given.
- Small holes are drilled into the jaw to receive the implants- (usually 2 — 4) situated in predetermined locations.
- The implant is screwed into place and stabilized.
- The denture is marked to precisely match the location of the implants.
- The denture is modified and then affixed to the MDIs.
- On each MDI there is a rubber O-ring which snaps into the corresponding spot on the denture.
The design of MDIs promotes quick healing and lasting results. The implants are only 2mm which causes very little trauma to the gums or jaw when placed. The denture easily snaps into place resting gently on the gum tissue. It is completely stable allowing the wearer to eat foods such as steak and apples with total confidence. Talking and laughing with friends is worry free when the denture is snapped into the jaw by way of these titanium implants.
This procedure allows for easier chewing, clearer speech, no rotting food beneath the denture, no need for adhesives or bonding to hold the denture in place, fresh breath and no slipping or discomfort. The results are permanent as in the case of full dental implants. The denture can be easily removed for cleaning, as you would clean your natural teeth.
MDIs are financially within reach of almost everyone and cost approximately 1/10th of the price of a jaw of dental implants. This is a true alternative for people who don’t wish to go through invasive dental surgery, or who simply don’t have the bone mass necessary to seat the larger dental implants.
